Ways in Which Time is Wasted

We live in an age where time is of the essence. It seems that more and more people are complaining about the lack of time or the inability to spend sufficient quality time with their friends or family.

There are little tips and tricks you can do to change your lifestyle and grab back some of that lost time.

It’s all very well managing your time, but you can only do it effectively if you’re good at knowing how long something will take you to do. Once you know how long something is going to take, schedule it. Got a business lunch? Sure, you’ve been given an hour, but allow for it to run over if you’re discussing many things in that period of time.

Once you put something on your mind, don’t change the plans until you have it done (Start by writing your goals, identifying the steps to get there, and creating a timeline. This will go a long way to keeping you on track day to day.). Always have half an eye (but not full, distracting focus) on the clock. If you’ve already followed the tip in knowing how long certain tasks take, then you’re already one step ahead of the game when completing them to schedule and on time.

I will give you 3 questions, which you have to give yourself before you start doing something (this will keep your focus, and will organize your time step by step):

  • o    Do I have what I need to start this task?
  • o    Do I know what I need to do?
  • o    Do I really want to do this?

And when you find the answers to these question, and you’re sure you know where you’re going, don’t let anybody steal your time or your dreams, but of course, don’t forget about your family. It may seem sad to say it but we live in a time where many people just don’t take the time needed to spend with family. Just 20 or 30 years ago, families would do things together, talk about their day over dinner and enjoy family BBQs and other get-togethers. This isn’t the case as much anymore. Is it that families no longer care about each other as much as they once did or is something else to blame?
Begin with baby steps and devote yourself to spending more time with your family. Even if you don’t have long hours to hang out together, make what time you do have quality time and everyone will benefit from the experience.

Too much sleep is also a time wasting. One of the researchers said that people who sleep too much find it hard to rest at night because they spend too much time in bed. He suggested one way to get rid of insomnia and of time wasting, is to spend less time in bed.

Whatever you do, honor your plans. Do not change your mind or beg off at the last minute. If you do, your family will come to know that you do not consider them important enough to spend time with, and eventually, they will not consider you important, either.

Once wasted, time is the only resource that cannot be replaced nor recovered – no matter how great the effort or monetary reward!
